Hi, welcome, take a seat!
Among all Brazilian State capitals, Curitiba (the capital of the State of Parana, in Southern Brazil) claims to have the highest green area rate per inhabitant in the country. This is why it is called the Brazilian Ecological Capital.
Here you will find the parks and the main squares of Curitiba. Parks like the magnificent Botanical Garden, the popular Barigui Park, Pope John Paul II Woods, the German Woods and many others can be easily found in the side menus.
All our pages (except this one) are in Portuguese, but you can easily navigate through them, even if you are not a native speaker of the Brazilian official language. Here is a small guide to the entries you will find through the site.
On the side bars, you will find links to all parks (parques) and squares (praças) included in our site. Each park or square page includes the following:
- Endereço (address): where the park or square is located. A Google Map is also included, as well as our photos (bottom).
- Histórico (history): this usually includes a link to the corresponding page at the site of IPPUC (Curitiba’s Institute for Research and Urban Planning), or to the town’s government official site.
- Nearby places of interest, with address and a link, whenever available.
- Activities developed in the park or square (e. g. yoga, tai chi chuan, reading sessions and others) and related blogs and sites.
- Linhas de ônibus (bus lines): here you will find all buses going to and from the park or square.
Curitiba is worldwide known for its urban transport system. Specific bus lines are listed on the pages devoted for express buses (ônibus expressos) and direct lines (ligeirinhos). Bus terminals (terminais) also have pages of their own, as well as some specific lines. If you are a first-time visitor to Curitiba, the Tourism Line (Linha Turismo) is a must – it takes you to the main tourist attractions, where you can get off the bus and take another one for the same fee (five entrances are allowed per ticket).
You will also find here a cultural guide to Curitiba. Please check our pages with listings of museums (museus), movie theaters (cinemas), theaters (teatros) and libraries (bibliotecas). Click on the links to our Google Maps and they will help you walking through the city.
Our link section will also give you access to lots of further information, although in Portuguese only (a few English links are included further belowon this page). There you will find links to the newspapers, radio stations and TV broadcasters in Curitiba, A list of environmental organizations and publications has also been included, as well as links for local government and public transport.
If you wish to take a look into parks in other regions of Brazil, a considerable and ever-expanding list of parks in Brazil (parques pelo Brasil) is also available from our site.
